Cozumel’s cultural life centers on its Maya heritage, its 19th century refounding and one of the oldest carnivals in Mexico, celebrated for more than 150 years. The island museum on the waterfront hosts rotating exhibitions, concerts and workshops for the community, and Cozumel was named a Pueblo Mágico in 2023. Traditional festivals such as the El Cedral fair each spring remain central to local identity.
