Every beach in Mexico is federal land and open to the public. These are the main beaches of Playa del Carmen, from busiest to quietest.
Mamitas
Calle 28 Norte at the beach. The best-known and liveliest beach in town, with beach clubs and waiter service along the sand. Public, but busy on weekends.
Punta Esmeralda
End of 5th Avenue past Calle 110, near Colosio. A Blue Flag public beach favored by local families, where a shoreline cenote flows into the sea in shallow pools.
Coco Beach
Beachfront at the end of Avenida CTM. A quieter stretch north of Centro with a small reef within swimming distance.
Playacar
Playacar Phase I, south of the ferry pier. A long, calmer beach in front of the Playacar community, popular with families. Walk on from the public end by the pier.
Xcalacoco
About 3 km north of the center. A secluded Blue Flag beach with few visitors and a favorite spot for kitesurfers. Water shoes help.
