Isla Blanca
Isla Blanca is a narrow peninsula of about 20 km north of Cancún, in the mainland part of the Isla Mujeres municipality, with the Caribbean on one side and the shallow Chacmuchuch lagoon on the other. Plan on roughly 25 to 45 minutes from downtown Cancún and about an hour from the airport; the last stretch is a packed sand road that a regular car can handle.
For buyers, Isla Blanca is about space and nature: low density, long undeveloped beaches, one of the region's best kitesurf lagoons and very few services. A 4.2 km stretch of the access road is being widened, with completion targeted for December 2026.
Areas to know in Isla Blanca
Southern entrance: the paved access road from Puerto Juárez and Punta Sam through the Costa Mujeres resort strip.
The beach strip: a long run of calm, turquoise water and white sand with a handful of boutique hotels and private villas rather than large resorts.
Lagoon side: the western shore on the Chacmuchuch lagoon, a state protected refuge and the base for the peninsula's kitesurf camps.
Northern tip: the far end of the peninsula, looking out toward Isla Contoy National Park.
Living on Isla Blanca
There is no town center on the peninsula, only a few hotels, kite camps and simple beach restaurants, and some places take cash only. Groceries, pharmacies, banks and hospitals are in Cancún, cell coverage can be weak, and residents rely on their own car. Turtles nest on these beaches from May to October.
