Shopping in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen covers everything from tourist boutiques on 5th Avenue to the supermarkets and street markets residents use every week.

5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida)

About 4 km of pedestrian street from the ferry pier to Calle 40. Boutiques, Mexican silver, galleries and handicrafts. The southern blocks are the busiest; north of Calle 20 is calmer and more local.

Calle Corazón

5th Avenue between Calle 12 and 14. An open-air lifestyle center with international brands, restaurants and a pedestrian plaza.

Quinta Alegría

5th Avenue at Avenida Constituyentes. An air-conditioned mall on several levels, useful on the hottest afternoons.

Paseo del Carmen

Avenida 10 at Calle 1 Sur, near the ferry. A shaded, Mediterranean-style open-air center with fashion, restaurants and wellness.

Plaza Las Américas

Nuevo Centro Urbano, off 30th Avenue. The main mall residents use, with a Chedraui supermarket, department stores and a Cinépolis.

Centro Maya

Highway 307, next to Playacar. A practical center with Soriana, City Club and a Cinemex, convenient for Playacar.

Supermarkets

30th Avenue, 10th Avenue and Highway 307. Walmart, Mega Soriana, Chedraui and the more upscale Chedraui Selecto cover weekly shopping.

Warehouse clubs

Highway 307 and Centro Maya. Sam’s Club and City Club for buying in bulk. There is no Costco in Playa del Carmen yet.

Sunday market in Colosio

30th Avenue Norte near Calle 54. A large weekly street market with produce, plants, hammocks and handicrafts. Go early with cash.

Saturday market at Parque La Ceiba

Colonia Ejidal. Local producers and artisans under the trees of a community cultural park.
