Cancún pairs 22 kilometers of Caribbean beachfront with a large lagoon system, mangroves and protected reef. Public beaches along Boulevard Kukulcán are free to access, and downtown residents also use urban reserves such as Parque Kabah and the newer Parque Cancún for walking, cycling and family time.

Playa Delfines (El Mirador)
Hotel Zone · Public beach and protected area

View on map
Why we recommend it: One of the last wide, undeveloped stretches of public sand in the Hotel Zone, known for its lookout and the large Cancún sign. Part of the beach was decreed a federal protected natural area, which helps keep it open to the public.
Playa Langosta
Hotel Zone · Public beach
Blvd. Kukulcán Km 5, Zona Hotelera, Cancún, Q.R.
View on map
Why we recommend it: A free public beach on the calm, shallow Bahía de Mujeres side of the Hotel Zone, with lifeguards, showers, restrooms and public parking. Its gentle water and low sargassum exposure make it a favorite with local families.
Playa Chac Mool
Hotel Zone · Public beach
Blvd. Kukulcán Km 10, Zona Hotelera, Cancún, Q.R.
View on map
Why we recommend it: An open-sea public beach near Punta Cancún with stronger waves that draw bodyboarders and swimmers. It is also a sea turtle nesting beach during the summer season.
Playa Las Perlas
Hotel Zone · Public beach
Blvd. Kukulcán Km 2.5, Zona Hotelera, Cancún, Q.R.

Why we recommend it: A small public beach close to downtown with calm water suited to paddleboarding and kayaking. It has an outdoor exercise area and connects with the Hotel Zone bike path.
Parque Ecológico Estatal Kabah
Downtown · Urban nature reserve
Av. Kabah and Av. Nichupté, Cancún, Q.R. 77500
View on map
Why we recommend it: Quintana Roo’s first protected natural area, about 41 hectares of jungle in the middle of the city with trails, a Maya house museum and exercise areas. It is open daily from early morning and is widely used by residents for walking, yoga and weekend workshops.
Parque Cancún
Downtown · Urban park and conservation area
Downtown Cancún, Benito Juárez, Q.R.
Website | View on map
Why we recommend it: A 243-hectare park, mostly set aside for ecological conservation, with a recreational zone built on a former municipal landfill. It offers sports areas and a bike path that is being extended, and it received roughly 200,000 visitors in 2025.
Laguna Nichupté mangroves
Lagoon · Mangrove protected area
Laguna Nichupté, between Blvd. Kukulcán and downtown, Cancún, Q.R.
View on map
Why we recommend it: The lagoon behind the Hotel Zone holds one of Cancún’s most important mangrove systems, managed as a federal protected area. The city and CONANP run restoration projects there, and the lagoon is used for kayaking, paddleboarding and boat tours.
Parque Nacional Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres, Punta Cancún y Punta Nizuc
Hotel Zone coast · Marine national park
Waters off Punta Cancún, Punta Nizuc and Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo
View on map
Why we recommend it: A national park created in 1996 that protects reefs, seagrass and marine life between Cancún and Isla Mujeres as part of the Mesoamerican Reef. Most snorkeling, diving and underwater museum outings from Cancún take place inside its boundaries.
Isla Blanca
North · Undeveloped beach peninsula
Isla Blanca, mainland Isla Mujeres municipality, north of Cancún via Punta Sam, Q.R.
View on map
Why we recommend it: A narrow peninsula north of Cancún with long, quiet beaches between the Caribbean and a shallow lagoon. It is known for kitesurfing, windsurfing, fishing and birdwatching, and it offers a calm contrast to the Hotel Zone.
